The Blair Witch Project is undoubtedly one of the greatest successes in film history when you talk of budget and campaigning.

The Blair Witch Project reportedly cost around $60k dollars to produce and ended up taking in over $140m dollars! That’s right $140m DOLLARS!!

One of the reasons behind this huge success, was the marketing campaign. As you know, social media now days is the number one go to if you’re trying to share your work and get it out there. You could be living here in the UK but now, because of social media, have fans of your work the other side of the pond!

But before social media, a little movie called The Blair Witch Project become the greatest viral marketing campaign of all time!

To start of this amazing success, Haxan Films (Production Co. of The Blair Witch Project) put together a website. That website being, as you all would know, www.blairwitch.com. The website told the story of The Blair Witch. Using this website, Haxan Films used this to constantly add new information being discovered whilst using other low budget methods of marketing.

Alongside this, The filmakers asked Haxan to put together a story about them being missing with the families then receiving the rediscovered footage of their missing loved ones. A GENIUS IDEA which certainly payed off! Whilst using this idea, Haxan used online forums to ‘share’ the story of ‘The Blair Witch‘ giving away little bits of information regularly which really grabbed the audience. The last magical tactic Haxan used was uploading low budget trailers which certainly grabbed more interested individuals!
